Things to Do
Deep History Coast

North Norfolk’s Deep History Coast is the 22-mile stretch of coastline between Weybourne and Cart Gap which has revealed the most spectacular finds.  Nearby West Runton yielded the most complete fossilised mammoth skeleton ever found in the UK and is the best-preserved elephant of its kind. Ongoing excavations have also revealed the bones of rhinos, hyenas, wolves and bears.

Stargazing
The night skies in North Norfolk are renowned for their clarity.  Just four miles from Picaroons, Kelling Heath is situated in the heart of the rural North Norfolk countryside, well away from any intrusive lighting.  It is considered one of the darkest sites in the country with an unrivalled view of the night sky.  As well as marvelling at the Milky Way we can see crystal clear views of other planetary neighbours which we probably haven’t been able to discern elsewhere.

Because of this the Norwich Astronomical Society organise star parties at Kelling Heath, attended by hundreds of astronomers from all over the country.  The autumn event is thought to be the largest star party in Europe.
